How to improve the listening in our class

Hi teachers!

Today I’m going to explain two ways to work the listening that have had helped to me so much for improve my English.

The first one is to watch the TV in English. Nowadays mostly every classroom has a projector or digital board where you can put some videos. I recommend you to put in the first grades of Primary little chapters of their favourite cartoon series. It would be so easy to them to understand it because they probably have seen many times all of them, and they know the plot. Better if that chapters has repetitions and easy vocabulary. For the following grades you can put normal movies, because their level is higher. What I don’t recommend is to put subtitles because if not, it’s very easy just read it, and finally you don’t pay attention at the listening. It doesn’t matter that they don’t understand everything, it’s normal. By the context, they should understand the meaning.

The other one is to fill the gaps of a famous song. This way will be better to do it from 4th of Primary. It is very motivate it because they know many songs in English and they love to sing it correctly, not in the famous “Spanglish”. And also they like to know the meaning and the message of all this songs. It’s important that the words they have to guess, don’t have to be very difficult. In that way you can also improve their vocabulary and their pronunciation.

I hope you do it in class and tell me the results.

See you!

  1. I like your idea about watching TV in English! Is very attractive and useful! This is the way my parents made me learn English, with Disney movies and nice songs! Love your blog, cheers!
